On January 21st we made our first trip to Haiti to support Africans in Haiti. The African community in DC came together and made donations of medical supplies, food, and cash to support the Vodun community and other grassroots organizations in Haiti affected by the earthquake. We were able to give 100% of the donations collected. All overhead was borne by those who travelled.
You can view pictures of the trip in the links above. Day 0 to day 7 were pictures taken by my cousin who lives in Haiti and survived the earthquake. The recent visit pictures were taken by us.
We have committed ourselves to a six month short term Haitian support effort followed by a long term sustainable development project.
Over the next six months we anticipate making several trips to deliver medical supplies, money and other necessities to various grassroots organizations/communities in Haiti.
Our next trip to Haiti will be on March 16th
Our goal is to raise $5,000 ( 100% of all donations will go to the Voudun Community and grassroot organizations in Haiti, all transportation cost, lodging and food will be borne by those travelling).
Please contribute to Our collective efforts to help Ourselves - every cash donation will help.
If you are interested in joining us on these trips or have any suggestions please send us an email via the contact page.
It’s important to understand that we saw no violence or looting while in Haiti, and other volunteers also told us the same.
We saw that, despite this catostrophic disaster, The Spirit of Africans in Haiti has not been broken!!!!
